Herewith a list of frequently asked questions
We are leaving before
our pets, can they stay with the maid / friend / neighbour?
We do Recommend that pets are placed in a registered Pet Boarding Association
Kennel. We know that they have full time staff to supervise and care for them
with immediate access to veterinary attention. Our kennels are secure. We prefer
to collect pets while their owners are there, as often the staff members cannot
control dogs and cats which may become insecure/aggressive when their owners
are not around. We are extremely proud of our facilities and welcome your inspection.
We are traveling to the United Kingdom / Australia / New Zealand and the pets
must go into quarantine for 6 / 8 months.
Will they survive, will they remember us and is it cruel?
Your pets may be unsettled initially but it is in the Quarantine Kennel's best
interests to ensure that your pets settle in quickly, are kept warm, given good
tasty food and, most of all, are sympathetically cared for and made to feel
at home.
We have received numerous letters from owners informing us of the excellent
psychological and physical of their pets after completing a 6/8 month quarantine
stay. Even if you are unable to visit regularly, your pets will have the same
personality when you collect them. They will remember you. There are approximately
20 000 pets in quarantine annually.
When does Animal Travel Services collect my pet? Will my pet have enough space
in the travel container?
From the measurements we receive from you, we add a few centimeters to ensure
that your pet can stand, sit, lie down and turn around. Too much extra space
can add substantially to cost and could cause injury if there is air turbulence.
Animal Travel Services will inform you well in advance as to the date and time
they will fetch your pet.
What section of the aircraft does my pet travel in?
Your pet will travel in the aircraft's hold, situated below the passenger deck.
Is it heated and pressurized? Will my pet survive?
Yes, this section is heated and pressurized, and it is the pilot's responsibility
to know whether or not there are animals on board. Fatalities are unlikely.
The flight can be compared to a car drive without a view. We have arranged travel
for 21 year old cats, 16 year old dogs, pets on heart pills, diabetics and epileptics
- all happily reunited with their owners.
Food and water prior to travel?
No feeding or watering at least 4 hours prior to collection. We recommend that
your pets travel on an empty stomach to avoid vomiting or soiling their box.
We supply the water containers used in the travel kennel. For international
destinations when animals are in transit, they will be transferred to the Animal
Hostel, when available, to be fed and watered between connecting flights. Many
of the International Airports have separate kennel areas where animals are placed
during this time. For instance, one International Airport has 22 "animal
stewards" attending to the thousands of animals passing through the airport.
